Title: Protein Research Scientist

Research Scientist Position in BioCyto Limited

BioCyto is a preclinical stage biopharmaceutical company that owns and develops drug delivery platforms that address targeted delivery and programmed and on-demand release challenges. BioCyto is developing a highly versatile portfolio of proprietary biodegradable polymeric parenteral and intranasal drug delivery systems. We seek a talented and highly motivated scientist with an interest in applying fundamental and applied research to next generation biotherapeutic platforms.
The company is headquartered in Cork (Ireland) with operational facilities in based in Trinity College Dublin and was co-founded in June 2017, by scientists and bioscience commercialization specialists. The purpose of this lab-based role is to provide expertise in human protein production, to aid structural biology and biophysics work plan. Experience in protein purification and production, ideally within an industrial setting, and a strong academic record at the PhD or postdoctoral level are required.

Main Tasks:

  • Designing and cloning, expressing (mammalian systems) and purifying proteins for biophysical analysis
  • Solving complex and multiple problems on own work on a day-to-day basis through independent thought and creativity.
  • Interrogating structural biological data generated for the project and use these data to achieve the project goals.
  • Presenting own work confidently, contextualising structural biology and biophysical data internally.
  • Driving best practice within structural biology work plan (e.g., safety, efficiency, technology).
  • Monitoring and reporting to the CSO and COO on all aspects of the project with regard to timings.
  • Leading target assessment and proposal writing for new opportunities including face to face meetings with the company executive
  • Experience with SPR, NMR, ITC would be an advantage.

As a scientist you will possess:

  • a strong academic record at the PhD or postdoctoral level
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • demonstrated independence and work ethics
  • the ability to work as part of a team to deliver within project deadlines
  • research experience in pharmaceutical formulation/materials chemistry. Expertise in
    one or more of the following areas is sought: micro & nano-encapsulation
    techniques including electrospinning/electrospraying, extrusion technologies, and
    spray drying. Additional expertise in polymer chemistry is an advantage.
